Measuring Infinity

STRATAGRIDS’ Measuring Infinity – A Test Arrangement at A Matter Theater
Book Launch of Textures of the Anthropocene: Grain Vapor Ray

measuring infinity 4

The video installation/audio play ‘Measuring Infinity – A Test Arrangement’ will premiere in the framework of Demonstrations, as part of A Matter Theater at HKW,

How to measure the immeasurable? According to most physicists, our universe consists of 95 percent dark matter and energy, phenomena that cannot be observed, only indirectly traced and described. This paradox serves as a point of departure for a performative inquiry involving a careful staging of tools and techniques for measurement: a sonic diagram, a computer simulation, a video animation. A point of gathering for thinkers and viewers alike, akin to an infinite bonfire in the darkness of space.

Fri, Oct 17 2014, 3 pm — 10 pm
It will be performed only once, at 3 pm sharp, Admission: 5€/3€

Concurrently STRATAGRIDS‘ contribution to Textures of the Anthropocene: Grain Vapor Ray (Klingan, Sepahvand, Rosol and Scherer) by the title of ‘Measuring Infinity’ will be launched during Das Anthropozän-Projekt. Ein Bericht.

STRATAGRIDS‘ contribution to Grain Vapor Ray approaches Jorge Luis Borges‘ short story  “The Aleph” as a temporal process whereby information is
generated and distributed, rather than being a static, physical point in space. The
operations within CERN’s Large Hadron Collider aspire to recreate the conditions
of the universe’s initial moments of existence; thus, a universe is in the process of
creation within the universe, in order to observe the universe and its principles.
STRATAGRIDS explores the narratives informing CERN’s activities, and by extension,
considers the enigmas of scale emerging from particle physics as well as those physical
phenomena that bear significant resonance for solely digital architectures, such as
the Internet. Is the smallest entity of matter, then, simply a data bit?
